Anatolian Shepherd Dog puppies due 1-25-08!

Now taking Reservations     They're here!!

Puppies are due on or about 1-25-08 and will be ready to go to new homes on or about April 1st.

About Anatolians: The breed of Anatolian Shepherd Dog is relatively new to the AKC.  The dogs were originally bred in Turkey as flock guardians and there, they have a long and important history.  In the US, many have found homes in Livestock Guardian settings with alpacas or llamas, sheep or goats, horses or other animals, including fowl.  Others enjoy home settings as faithful and gentle members of families.  Anatolians serve well as guardians, as they are highly territorial and protective and yet are attentive and gentle with their charges.  Anatolians do not herd livestock, but rather live amongst the herd to protect it from outside intruders and predators.

Temperament:  We have found the breed to be gentle in the extreme.  They are a very laid back breed, independent thinking and smart.  Jessie is an immeasurable asset to this alpaca farm!

Size and color:  Most Anatolians are shades of fawn, and usually have a black mask, which can include only the nose, or extend over the entire head and ears.  They can be as light as nearly white or as dark as nearly red, with or without a white chest blaze or booties.  Some lines carry pinto or brindle as well.  Most are smoothcoated, although rough coats are accepted and prevalent in some lines.  Adult Females are usually 110-140 lbs and males are 120 - 150 lbs.  They are 27 - 33 inches at the shoulder.  You can expect a pup to weigh 16- 22 lbs at 'going home' age of 8-9 weeks.  Life expectancy is long compared to some giant breeds.  Anatolians have a life expectancy of 11 - 13 years.

January 25 (and into the 26th!), 2008 - "Marathon Puppy Delivery"

The Puppies are here!!  After 20 hours of delivery time - a marathon for all of us - Jessie has welcomed 11 puppies to the world.  Mother and babies are doing great.

Each pup is strong and vigorous, and remarkably, within an ounce of the same size.  Jess was actually carrying 15 pups.  The first two were breech and trying to come at the same time.  Both were lost.  Number 12 and 14 also were stillborn, but remarkably the number 13 and 15 pups made it.  We are disappointed of course to lose those, but are thrilled that Jessie was able to hang in there through such a grueling delivery and safely present the large litter that she did.  The little chubsters, 6 boys and 5 girls, are getting fattened up on her milk and have grown already - just in 24 hours!

GROWING UP!!        Portraits - Taken Weds 2-20-08 at age 3 1/2 weeks

The BOYS       We boys love to play!  Tank got his name because he was the first puppy to walk and he just walked right over everybody.....  Chunk - well, he's just a chunk!  The blue boys were the first to figure out how to play and wrestle (even before their eyes were open!) and so are appropriately being called the Bash Brothers (remember them from the Mighty Ducks movie?)  You sweet sleeping puppies better look out when Bash and Crash decide it is time to play!  Big Red has been the heaviest pup from birth.  Tiger got his name because his collar is leopard print (hey, they only make so many colors!) and he was the first to growl - a little Tiger!

The GIRLS   We love to get in on wrestlemania, too!  Right now at 3 1/2 weeks old, we sleep a lot of the day, but when we're not sleeping, we have big playing to do.  Stripes got her name due to her striped collar, of course, and same with Pinkie, who has the dark pink flowered collar.  Golden girl has always been easy to pick out because she is the lightest color.  Princess also wears pink and has been a super sweetie from the beginning.  And Michael..... yeah, Michael is a girl!  She's got the one white paw like Michael Jackson's famous glove!
