Dr Toni Cotton Neonatal Seminar

This event was held at Tick Ridge Farm on April 9th, 2005.  It was a beautiful day and much was learned by all.  Although you missed this seminar, keep watching this site for future seminars and classes.

Dr Cotton demonstrates ultrasound for the group. We got a good view of the cria's spine and took a picture
Carrie Wetherill, future veterinarian,  is all ready to assist a birth. Dr Cotton works with Karen Mladonicky to demonstrate the proper angle to rotate the leg.
Judy Klein feels for the cria's head.  Closing your eyes helps to visualize the position of the cria in the dam. Dr Cotton repositions the crias repeatedly until we all get to try delivering the crias from each dystocia position.
Pressure applied to the simulated uterus gives Joanna Lawrence the feel of assisting a real birth.  Ken Mladonicky applies pressure to make Todd Wetherill's job harder.
Phil Starr and Tom Arnold team up to deliver a cria.

This is a very valuable course in our opinion.  Dr Cotton gives about 5-6 hours of lecture and then the course finishes up in the barn with ultrasound demonstrations.  The "lab" portion of the day utilizes the bodies of stillborn crias to teach the intricate manipulations that may be necessary to assist a dystocia delivery.  As sad as it is to see these lifeless crias, it makes us feel good that their bodies may be used to help us learn to save the life of another cria.
